Hey everyone,

Say I want to update Columbia on awards after the Mid-Year report has been mailed; how should I do this? Fax? Email admissions office? Snail mail? I can't seem to find anything on the website.

Thanks!

I snail-mailed mine. :X I’ve heard of people using e-mail too, but that seems a bit informal to me.

Hey hawkdancer,

Thanks! I called the office this morning; they told me to send updates to ugrad-confirm@columbia.edu. Hope that helps anyone else with the same question.

email is perfectly fine, and totally preferred by them anyway

joso has it right, i’ve written on this before.

a) snail mail is only appropriate if somehow you been the presentation of the letter or card is important. but the problem is that during this time of the year columbia sifts through THOUSANDS of pieces of paper, the likelihood that your message will give the admissions officer enough pause in the day for it to be noticed is minimal.

b) the goal is for your update to be received and for it to be reviewed; in this regard email is best, and most preferable. columbia reads everything online, so it is easier to add to your file than scanning.

you can send to confirm, or to the general address ugrad-ask@columbia.edu, though confirm is better for applicants (ask being more for general prospectives)
