How Stat Driven is CMU for Undergrad Admissions?

By stats, I mean GPA, SAT/ACT, SAT II. While obviously Carnegie Mellon take in account recommendation, essays, etc., I have heard that CMU cares more about the statistics than most other selective schools. Is this true?

To give some context, I am asking as someone who has a GPA 0.1 below CMU’s average, and I was wondering if I still had a chance if I applied early decision.

You absolutely have a chance, CMU cares more about your activities than your GPA. Don’t sweat 0.1 of a GPA.

Like all selective schools, CMU cares a great deal about your GPA and test scores. But .1 isn’t going to be a big deal if your other scores are strong.

People should not worry about admissions when their stats are scarcely lower than the average. It is an average, thus there will be a large number of people who had GPAs lower than that of the average. A GPA that is .1 less than the average GPA won’t make a noticeable difference.

If you had a 1000/1600 SAT and a 2.8 GPA your stats would result in denial. If you are about their average, stats will not keep you out.
