I’ve applied for the waiver at 3 of my four school choices, and I’m really anxious to see the result. Duke is the only school I applied to that reviews before acceptance, and they waived the requirement for me. I described my financial situation here:

Wouldn’t Brown review waivers for everyone? Or only those accepted? I’m confused by your post saying that Dukeonl reviews those accepted

According to the FA Office at Brown, they begin to put the packages together at Brown after acceptances (but before the official acceptances are sent out on March 27th). That way there’s less work I guess. Duke does them on a rolling basis.

No one but Brown can say. Do you need them to be lenient because you don’t really qualify? That’s another story… Brown did give my daughter a waiver, so they give them, at least.

I need them to be lenient because I won’t be able to afford the cost without it. I’ve gotten it waived at other places, but I recognize that each college is different, so I wanted to ask and see if anyone has dealt with this before.

No one who needs one can afford costs without it, usually. That doesn’t really equate with being lenient or not. Using words like strict or lenient implies letting you slide or something. I suppose it is a individual judgement on the specific situation which I imagine is different for each case. If other colleges have given it, that’s a good sign wouldn’t you say? All the colleges dd applied to accepted it. State schools to LAC’s to Uni’s.

Sorry for the confusion. Since Brown acknowledges that it is very case-by-case, I wanted to ask others what their experiences were with the waiver. Because it’s so relative, I’m not sure how a University would “let you slide” (slide based on what criteria?). Also, from reading through the boards, there have been some people who have said they have gotten waivers at some places, and not received them elsewhere. No one I know personally has applied to a school that requires the NCP, so all I wanted was to get some clarification/insight on the process.
