How strict is the four year science recommendation?

@MYOS1634 since their compared to their students of their school in general and she’s applying to selective schools but we don’t know which ones or how selective, just pointing out some will have more rigor. I agree with your statement especially for what she intends to major in also.

This is why I suggested reaching out to the intended target schools. Some might give her useful insight and a direction to go into.

I think your schedule makes sense, and I’m glad to hear you’ve been exposed to Calculus! Really no need for another science.

Thanks for all the advice! I am trying to shoot for some T20s just because I think they sound interesting, but I should have specified that by “pretty competitive” Boston College, Wesleyan University, and Reed College are some of my top choices. They are still pretty competitive though.

They have astronomy, geology and immunology offered second semester, all of which I think sound interesting. AP CSP is the only AP class that is considered a tech credit. I am a humanities person who learned how to code in my free time so that I could make websites and apps related to my interests, so I wanted to take Comp Sci A, but apparently it doesn’t count towards graduation.

@2020violet. You are a humanities person that taught yourself to code so you can make apps and websites in your free time. . Sounds like part of an essay to me. That makes you very interesting, at least to me.

@2020violet I agree that you should look at the colleges that you are interested in and see what the requirements are. Also are they suggestions or requirements? You have a rigorous course load and it is varied. Most schools count stats as a math class so you do have a math and you have already taken AB so that seems fine to me. As far as science computer science is an important class and I think colleges will like that you are trying new things. FWIW my son went to a rigorous private HS and did not love Spanish. He tested into 3H as a freshman and took 4 as a sophomore. He was done he wanted to take other things that interested him so he stopped the language. He got into a USNWR top 30 school and is doing very well. I’m not saying I think you should do what he did but just as a point of reference. What does your GC say? Good Luck!

@lbf Thank you! This is all very helpful info.
