If you major in Public Policy at WM, are you recognizable in the society? How strong is it?

I had a similar question. I was debating between government and public policy. One of my concerns was what potential the degree offers, especially since I am likely not going to law school

I have looked up what kind of classes are taken for public policy and government. Most of them seems to overlap, but for public policy major you need to take 2 ~ 3 econ courses as well as some type of research method classes, while for government major, all the required courses are GOVT courses only.

Both are great programs. Public Policy is more quantitative, and majoring in public policy relies heavily on math and econ courses, whereas Government courses are more writing intensive. Some students choose to double major in Government and Economics to compensate.

William and Mary’s most attractive aspects, in my opinion, include the myriad of opportunities available to Gov/Public Policy/and IR majors. It’s usually really easy to get to know professors and get involved in research. Also, it’s Virginia, so we have an election every year, and community organizers for candidates from both parties are always looking for interns on campus. It’s a great way to start off getting work experience, and after working a few political internships, you’ll have more experience and an easier time getting opportunities in DC. We also have a great alumni network, and it’s often easy for Gov/PubPolicy majors to find jobs right out of college through connections.
