How substantial is NHS?

I wasn’t able to apply for NHS before junior year (due to me transferring between schools) but I received an invitation based on my academic performance today to apply. How important/irrelevant would NHS be in my college applications? Would being inducted to NHS be of any significance should I apply to T20s? On the contrary, would being rejected from NHS raise AOs’ eyebrows?

No to both questions.

Thanks for your response! Hopefully now I know not to fixate myself on it.

NHS isn’t viewed as anything particularly noteworthy. It’s better than nothing, of course. The main problem is that high schools can make their own standards for NHS membership. Some schools have rigorous requirements, others have almost nothing. That’s why colleges aren’t that impressed, so it isn’t an issue if you can’t participate.

Can attest, I have heard of students in some schools being accepted for simply meeting the minimum GPA threshold and not doing anything meaningful as part of NHS while in other schools the criteria is much more strict and some even have quotas. Thanks for your generous response!
