How the hell are you guys paying tuition?

For us OOS students tuition is right around 47k due to not receiving any financial aid. My family's EFC is only 11k and my parents make barely double the price of tuition. This leads to my question, how are people similar to me paying for this?

I've already ruled out Michigan which happens to be my dream school because I don't think the debt is worth it. Is anyone planning to take out a ton of loans? Any advice or help, please!

47k? nah bro, it’s only 40k for engineers. I work around it, FA with loans etc covers most of it, and I live off campus, saved a ton of money. Spent probably only 3k this semester on housing and food.

Parents got it on the lock down. I’ll help out with a job and such, won’t spend much either.

you should be from michigan

I don’t know what engineering school you’re talking about because my wife and I have to fork over $50K+ for my kid in COE

Your parents make twice tuition. Other people’s parents make ten times tuition. Others have net-worths of 300 times tuition. One of the main reasons why there are so many OOS students is to help subsidize instate students. People who can’t afford it don’t come.

^ true story. many of the international and OSS students from NYC drive beamers around campus.

PeterW, I was talking about tuition costs only.

…by being instate :0

OOS tuitioin for most majors is about $37K, not $47K. No undergraduate major is more than about $40K for the first two years.

But it sill is a lot of money. We were able to make the OOS tuition because D got $20K/year in scholarships.

In reality, most people will hit upper level tuition by the 3rd semester. For CoE, that’s 43k in tuition and fees.

It is going to cost me 50k/yr in CoE. That is, if I don’t get an AFROTC Scholarship. I’ll also beg for FinAid, since another and equally good school is 17k/yr cheaper (OOS)

loans. as simple and horrible as that.

Parents luckily

Instate or we couldn’t go…

Started saving when our kid was a baby (19 years ago). Wanted to keep all options for future education open. Who knew the cost of higher educations would be so high
