I've just received an awful financial aid package from my 1st choice school and was wondering how to go about appealing. I have a very generous offer from my 2nd choice school (of equal or slightly greater "prestige") but don't know how to go about using it to try and leverage out some money from my 1st choice. Any advice?

you just got the pkg now? are you a transfer? I did not think transfers usually got very good aid (the leftovers) so you should consider yourself lucky. Try calling your first choice school's finaid office, it can't hurt to ask

rlm919 - I am a transfer. My package was 100% loans compared to my 2nd choice school's offer of a 20k scholarship and 7k in loans, so tranfers don't get crap everywhere evidently.

A call is generally the best method. UPenn refused me any aid until I called and told them about offers from other schools (you may also want to fax written versions of those offers to the school's financial aid office). Good luck!

Thx I actually did call and fixed a mistake of theirs which ended up with me receiving 11k in grants. Nice, though I wish it was the same as my 2nd choice and they said they can't compare offers. I have to have some circumstance that changed.
