Is there a separate form that I have to fill out for each college in order to get a financial aid?
Will the forms be released in the websites of the colleges??

No, most school would want you to file FAFSA first and then some schools also want you to file CSS Profile too

Thank you, 4kidsdad
Where then can I get FAFSA and CSS files??

FAFSA is not available until January 1. Website is:

https://fafsa.ed.gov/

CSS Profile is something you do through the CollegeBoard website. You can start looking at this in the fall (I think for D2’s ED school it was due in November):

<a href=“CSS Profile Home – CSS Profile | College Board”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools;

But you need to look at the financial aid website page for each college. I suggest making a spreadsheet of the deadlines and financial aid paperwork required for each college. They all have their own nuances to it, unfortunately (different dates, extra forms, different tax forms expected to be sent different ways).

If you want to know what kind of aid you might expect to receive from a college, go to their financial aid website page and have your parents help you with the Net Price Calculator.

What semester are you applying for? Look at the financial aid pages for each college you are going to apply to and they will tell you what you need. Some use CSS Profile and some have their own forms.

Fafsa form is a govt form, not on college website. For going to college fall 2015 will not be available until Jan 2, 2015 You can try the FAFSAforcaster to see what it looks like and calculator your EFC.
https://fafsa.ed.gov/FAFSA/app/f4cForm?execution=e1s1

CSS Profile is also not yet available (except for this fall or spring), I think it opens Oct 1. You use 2014 estimated data.

Thank you all
Does FAFSA and CSS Profile also apply for international students like me??

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) does not apply to International students. It is for federal aid determination for US citizens.

You will need to check every college website and see what the process is for international students. There should be enough information there to figure out what to do. If you don’t see it, then email admissions when you get close to application time to see what they will need and when. I am not sure the net price calculators will work for you at a lot of schools (don’t recall if they ask if you are international or not). You can try them, but if they don’t ask that question then you won’t get an accurate answer most placed. As I am sure you know, most US schools don’t meet need for international students.

Why don’t you indicate that you’re an international student on your first post?

C’mon. This is a 17 year old. You can excuse them for maybe not realizing that the process is going to be different for an international.

Hoolala, VERY IMPORTANT. You must read the financial aid sections of EVERY website for colleges to which you apply. Schools have varying financial aid application submissions and varying DEADLINES. These are NOT the same for all schools. You MUST submit everything a college requests for financial aid consideration. If you leave something out…they will not review your application for aid.

Almost all colleges require the FAFSA (a very few don’t…very few) for U.S. Citizens. Some require the Profile. Some have their own financial aid application form. Some require IDOC. Some require submission of tax returns for the FAFSA year (usually done with the data retrieval tool…but some still like actual copies), some want tax returns for the PRIOR year as well.

As an international student…you are NOT eligible to complete the FAFSA for federal aid purposes. Schools will clearly detail the process for you.

And if you apply EA, or ED, schools usually have a priority deadline for the Profile or their own form.

Check to see if the colleges you are applying to even award need based aid to international students…some simply do NOT. Others offer limited need based aid to international students, and some award the same aid to internationals as to citizens.

And…remember that some schools are not need blind for admissions for international students. This means that your ability to pay will be considered when you application for admission is reviewed.

My point…make NO assumptions about what you should be sending. Read each college site very carefully, and do not miss the DEADLINES. In fact, plan to submit on the early side. You never know when you will have computer issues.

@thumper1 Thank you so much. I appreciate your help a lot
