How to argue about rejection letter?

HI!:)I'm a sophomore from China, and I really want to be a spartan as a transfer. I applied for 2013fall in early January, after 12 weeks' waiting, I got a rejection letter yesterday. The letter said I was unadmitted because my GPA is less than 3.0. Maybe only god knows how disappointed I was when I read that. In fact, my BF is in MSU since last year, you know, long-distance relationship is totally sucks. So I decide to argue about the decision to see if I got a waiting list.

I got 83/100 as average score in the past 3 semesters, and my transcript says I got GPA 3.02.
I know this score is really bad, But you know, universities in China are not working in the same way as US universities. We don't get a chance to choose what course to take, so, some courses are not exactly what I want, or what I think I could take them well, like The Politics. Obviously, this situation bothers me a lot, and I suppose this is one of the reasons why I got low GPA.

After those, teachers of my university are really harsh, And the exams was a little bit hard for us, of course, I'm not saying that all of students got low score, but I'm pretty sure that more than half of us feel difficulty in final exam. My ranking is 10 in all of students of the major.(Well, because we are not a big major, so....we are 34 in all:))

Besides, when I was a freshman, I made an initial plan for my 4 years' college life. According to that, I suppose to spend much more energy and time in reading lots of books and doing some SU works than study. (We were not taking any specialized course first year)So that, I could use the first year to improve my leadership and to be more mature. Furthermore, I didn't realize that I could also studying abroad as transfer until last September. To be honest, I did not realize how important GPA is since in China people seems not paying as much attentions as people in US does.

But I did get great score in HS, And I already being offered by suny-buffalo. So........do you gays think I have even a tiny bit chance to let them consider me again? For god’s sake, I would even willing to be killed to get in MSU~~~~~~:(.

At the last of the last, thanks everyone who spend time reading this long-boring thread, and if anyone have any idea about my case, please tell me maybe. I know I hardly have any chance, but I still think it is worthy to give a shot.
Thank you all, and GOOD LUCK for everybody.

As a Chinese national, your application is being ranked against other applications from Chinese nationals. And no other nation on earth has as many int’l applicants to U.S. universities. For an elite U.S. university, if you do not have some distinguishing attribute (e.g., a remarkable talent, Princeling pedigree, cured cancer) to stand out from the HUGE crowd of Chinese applicants then it is a steep hill to climb.

@GMTplus7 In fact, I do know I don’t have chance, what I want to do is just try whatever I could to make myself leave no regrets. Thanks for your time. Maybe it is more and more of us want to get into, so I guess it is really hard for me to compete with applicants who are well prepared.

I’m just guessing, but once they make a decision, it’s final. I’m not even sure how you would go about contacting admissions about contesting their decision. Even if you did contact admissions, I doubt they would take the time to reconsider. I’m sorry my friend.

Probably not. If you’re intent on coming here because of him, you could go to the local community college (LCC) and try transferring again.

@LineDrive Yes, that’s maybe a problem, but since I searched from internet of both China and U.S., I found that I may get a tiny bit chance , and I’m thinking maybe my BF could phone them first to ask if them could take any time for my case, and if they permit he maybe could just go to admissions and communicate with them face to face, If not, I will also take it well~~:).
Actually, I’m not really expect this will work, the reason why I’m still trying is that there is a old saying in China:If you haven’t try your best, then you don’t get qualification to talk about destiny. (My English is poor, I’m not sure the translation is right, sorry for this ~~)
It’s very kind of you to give me your idea, It helps a lot, thank you:)

@romanigypsyeyes Thank you for your reply and advice.Your are right, I guess that maybe the best way for me right now. But, I still have a question, I mean, I got a offer from suny-buffalo, so should I go there first then try to transfer next semester again? I’m guessing transferring from UB isn’t as easy as from LCC maybe?

If you decide to attend a community college, just make sure you 4.0 and you should be good. I’m not sure how many credits you already have to transfer from your University in China, but if you showed them you could 4.0 at a community college for a few semesters, they would probably accept you.

LCC is very close to MSU. So you could spend time with your friend. If you attend UB, you probably wouldn’t be able to see him much.

@LineDrive2013 I’ve already got 56 credits for all my 4 semesters here, but because the differences between China and U.S. I guess they may just transfer part of them for me.

I’m not sure are we using a same way to calculate GPA, course you know in China, 4.0GPA means that your average score should reach at least 90/100, and that’s really hard to get here in China…and my major is Biotechnology, that just makes 4.0 even less possible to reach…

It’s important for me if I could spend time with him, but I think what more important is to learn and study in a great university which is really fit for me. Anyway, studying abroad is a perfect chance for me to enrich my life and I expect to learn a lot, we all know that U.S. possess the best education resources, so I’m thinking maybe I could go to UB first to see if there is a good choice for me. Besides, BF said he could drive to see me maybe once a week.If I still want MSU more, I may will try to transfer in 2014 Spring again.

You’re so considerable and thank you for suggesting. :)

I was told if you get rejected you could contest by changing the major you apply as and going through the review process again. Past that, I’d suggest you try to contact the admission counselor and discuss things with them.

Maybe you could try and apply for the Spring semester of next year.

First, I have no knowledge of the int’l student transfer workings, but, SUNY-Buffalo is a great school and not that far (relatively) from Michigan. Maybe that will be your best option.
Good Luck!

Palier, I have no idea why that would work. You are admitted to the school, not the major. You could reapply the next semester but the major is completely irrelevant.
