How to ask a college for more money

Does Syracuse require the CSS profile and non custodial parent profile? Is that going to be a problem with your parents not getting along?

yes they do I did submit those for financial aid purposes, but it was not easy

$2000 isn’t much more for a school that’s a better fit if you actually have the money. Note I didn’t say “dream school,” I genuinely meant better fit. If you don’t have a way to come up with the money (and just say no to private student loans at 10-15%), it might as well be 2 million.

Be careful because that $2000 might be more over four years. If a bunch of your aid is work study, for example, and you have trouble finding work study hours, the difference will matter more. And your aid may change each year, because you’ll need to reapply.

At Rutgers you would only need the parent you live with to do the FAFSA with you.

You would get partial Pell Grant and probably NJ state grant.

You said you would have money to pay the difference and probably not need to take loans.

At Syracuse your aid would depend on both of your divorced parents’ income and assets (and that of future spouses if they remarry) and their cooperation with filling out CSS profile.
