My #2 son has just returned from visiting his east coast colleges, and now he's narrowed his list down to three schools; Occidental, Pitzer, and Pepperdine.

He is quite bright, but doesn't always perform at his maximum.
He has no idea of what he wants to do in life.
He earned ten varsity letters in high school, but doesn't want to do intermural sports in college.
He has an active social life, but isn't a party animal.
His brother is a freshman at Harvey Mudd.

Any hints, tips, ideas, or suggestions will be appreciated.

Pepperdine might be too much of a temptation for him to just go out and have fin b/c of its location, but pitzer isn't really near anything. I may be a little biased, but i really think occidental has the best of both worlds, being in LA, but having its own little oasis in the city.

How very cool that he'll be close to his brother. but not too close. Pitzer is a great school, especially for someone who isn't sure what they want to do. The fact that it's part of the consortium allows him to sample all kinds of classes. If Claremont starts to feel too insulated then just hop on the metrolink and in 40 minutes he'll be dumped off in the middle of LA and can wander to his hearts content. Honestly, it is easier to get to the middle of LA from Claremont then it is from Occidental. You need a car at Occidental since there isn't any metro. Of course, you can always take in a Dodgers game. Claremont is better located to get to the mountains and the desert, too.
