How to decline admission???

This is ridiculous. My son has tried repeatedly to decline his UMCP admission, but nothing works!

First, when he tries the "decline" link found on item 2, here: University of Maryland - Admitted Students it takes him to the "confirm" acceptance page!

Next, calling the University's admissions department is pointless. Why? Because apparently they don't take calls on University holidays. It's spring break this week. I guess that's a University holiday, so they're not answering the phone.

We'll keep trying and probably resort to email. But, really! It shouldn't be this hard to decline.

If anyone has a suggestion, please share.

It’s a University Holiday this spring break because everyone is furloughed. I would just try calling next week.

Furloughs? Well, that’s a shame and I’m sorry to hear about it. Now that I know I can empathize.

The school could have difused my anger and frustration instantly if the voice mail greeting explained that.

(But the website dysfunction still bugs me.)

When you click on the “Confirm Status” and then “Confirm Enrollment,” it gives you the two options of either accepting or declining admission. Pressing Confirm Enrollment is not an agreement to attend the University.

Not for Son. If he clicks “confirm enrollment” he’s given the choice to enroll for Fall 2010 or Spring 2011. Are you saying he should click one of those and THEN he he’ll have an option to decline?

Yes. I don’t know why they do it that way, but when I accepted my admission I did that first and then it gave me a whole page for accepting/declining the offer.
