How to do prescreen

Do you need a professional sound equipment and camera for a prescreen audition or is just a good cellphone camera on a tripod fine? Also, do I need to introduce the pieces and myself for the prescreen or can I just play straight through? And finally, if I have to introduce the pieces, is it better to do them all in the beginning or introduce them as I go?

You do not have to use a professional. Just be sure to use the highest quality camera and audio device you have.

You need to look at each schools requirements. It should say if you upload it all as one file or individual files. Some schools want audio only and others want video. Check the requirements for you schools and record based on that.

Each school has different prescreen requirements, like whether to introduce the pieces or not, video or audio, live accompanist or not, separate files or not, how long, etc. You should really read the requirements carefully on their websites.

What kind of equipment you need may depend on instrument, whether you have live accompaniment, and the school you’re applying to.

If you do a search on “prescreen” in this forum, you’ll find a lot of threads with suggestions and past experiences.
