Hello I am in college right now and I only have a two courses left to fulfill my GE Requirements and I am barely a freshman so I have to think about taking courses from specific majors. I know I have a lot of time to declare a major but I have been wanting to major in theater and English since last year and now that I am taking some courses in those fields, I am certain that I would like to major in those fields. However, I don't plan to be a bookworm throughout my whole college experience as I hope to make memories and hang out with friends. What would you recommend I do to be able to double major in those fields and still have a great social life. Getting C's is not an option as I am on scholarship and need to maintain 3.3+ GPA. Also, I am required to participate in a school play or performance or participate in a club or sport team as part of my scholarship. I am definitely going to be trying out for the school play this fall. Can someone give me advice on how to balance all of that?

I don’t know about your college, but I can say that at my daughter’s college (and high school, for that matter), the drama students worked very hard, but they played hard too. Everyone liked the department parties, and she made some friends for life. Their school work and their social lives overlapped a great deal, so they didn’t have to choose in the way you’re suggesting. Instead they shared an intense college experience that they enjoyed very much at times. It’s not for everyone, but then what is?

A friend of my daughter’s is working on a double major in English and Theater. He is a Sophomore BA student, not a BFA. He seems to be doing quite well with everything, although he is, of course, extremely busy. He’s been in several of the mainstage productions at his school as well. He also seems to have a nice social life, even a girlfriend. So he’s proof it can be done, and he is not like you and almost finish with his core courses. He is also attending on a scholarship.
