My daughter is planning to attend OU next year on the National Merit scholarship. She would like to live on the National Merit floors. She is using the university’s roommate finder, but her potential matches do not appear to be expecting to live on the National Merit floors.
What is the best way to find other NM kids and start exchanging info, looking for a good roommate match?
I don’t understand that either, on other college websites you can write information about yourself (where you are from, your interests, activities, honors college, etc.)…how can you pick someone from their answers without more information? Am I missing something? My daughter wants to live on the National Merit floor too and would like a roommate that is from OOS too. Was there a place to write more information?
Don’t know what my D did last year and the process. But all that I can say is if your child is NMS, you will get the dorm in NMS floor. OU allocates one floor in each of the towers and they assign them. Though randomly assigned some room mate, every thing worked out well. My D became friends with some of the girls who are in different rooms but in the same floor and it all worked out fine.
Our D is a freshman that lives on the NMS floor in Walker. She connected with her roommate through a NM GroupMe chat. I believe this was set up during the S2S weekend? I think others connected through a Class of 2020 twitter and/or instagram page. The staff at the National Scholars office is so incredibly friendly and helpful. They might have additional suggestions, too.
3 years ago they filled out a questionnaire and paired my son with a roommate. The roommate was just a guy. The mom was a helicopter and my son found many other, better friends on the floor. Not sure if the pairing system has changed. The floor seemed to be a big family in some ways.
Agree with @Torveaux. Freshman year on Walker 10, first roommate moved to different dorm first week, 2nd roommate moved in for second semester and they got along ok but as far as I can tell, hardly ever saw each other. DS is still friends with others from Walker 10, although in his case, he met them in classes and then discovered they lived on his floor lol. But that’s his personality, connects with people more through common interests than pure socializing.
