How to find out where people went to grad school from undergrad

Is there any sort of resource anyone knows about that shows data on where a grad program's accepted applicants came from? For example, I want to see how many people from my school have been accepted for graduate study at X school. I've checked with my program and they claim to not keep exit stats like that. Not sure if this exists, but I thought I would ask.

There are no such statistics kept.

There’s no database of info like this that’s pan-grad/UG school. However, my grad program (like others) lists the names of the current students and their UG institutions on the program website. So, if you have a particular grad school program in mind, check out their website. (Also, bec. I went to a small school, I could find out what alum from my major did after graduation if I asked our director).

Look at the CVs of students on the job market in a particular year, or on graduate students’ websites. Grad schools generally don’t track that data and if they do, they probably won’t release it.

Yup, if you’re up for going into every departmental website and mining everyone’s CV, you could very well be the pioneer to make such a database!

My grad school has pictures of the last few entering classes, along with which sub discipline and what undergrad they came from.

The last two posts sound like an excellent premise for a movie about a social networking site where you can rate whether a person is smart or not based on their appearance and where they went to undergrad.

I mean–with a thick British accent, I think “smot o’ not” would be a great idea for a site.

Good question! Sometimes an undergrad’s career services will have (student provided) information about which graduate programs students have moved on to. Check it out : )
