How to focus

how do you guys focus on your assignments? I'm a full-time student, I work part-time, and I work on the school newspaper. I have a lot of work to do, but it seems like all I ever want to do is get on the computer.

How do you guys focus yourselves enough to study and do your readings and write papers and all that?

Try turning the computer off.

That's a start, but I kind of need it for research, writing/editing papers, etc.

Most of the time, I don't focus solely on school things. I have to have breaks every so often (my problem is that I spend more time on breaks than I do on what I'm supposed to be doing!).

Really, you just have to motivate yourself. My motivation is that I NEED good grades to get into pharmacy school.

There is no magic cure.

I wish there was some kind of pill or something that could make me focus on my school work. I want to do well, I want to be in school, and I want to go to grad school. But it's like I want to do anything but study.

You could always get a script for a stimulant like Adderall, Concerta, Ritalin, Vyvanse, etc... It's a CII narcotic, so I would recommend it, but if it's completely necessary I would see a psychiatrist for an evaluation.

How much would a prescription cost? What does CII narcotic mean? Where would I find a psychiatrist?

A CII narcotic is a heavily controlled substance. It is controlled the same as some of the prescription pain medication. To find a psychiatrist, get out a phone book and look under "psychiatrist".

I really hate how people think that medication will fix everything. GET MOTIVATED!! You can't depend on meds to fix every single little thing for your whole life.

dont..got get a prescription to adderall (very easily)...and found myself becoming very dependent on it,lost lots of weight, and gained tons of acne.

I wouldn't need Adderall that long. I'm just tired of my schoolwork suffering because I have a really hard time concentrating on it.

"I wouldn't need Adderall that long."

famous last words... there's a reason it's CII.

ha.

At least use LeechBlocker for your Firefox. Works like a charm especially I put in a funny comic relating to spending too much time on the Internet.

I'm just tired of having this problem. It's held me back too long.

I'll have to look into Leechblocker.

yea serious same here i got the problem too...what i found helpful was just taking the mouse away and telling someone to hide it ..therefore u could not go on the computer . do this for a month and it'll end your addiction

I would do that, but I use a laptop most of the time. There's no way for me to hide the mouse without hiding the computer along with it.

hide the computer.. and if u gotta use something a computer for some type of research..use a computer at a library and do hw at library i find that doing that helps a lot

Fail a class or two. That should motivate you to do your homework in the future.

Have you thought that maybe you are doing too much and aren't getting enough sleep which would cause lack of attention? Get your 8 hours of sleep every night and eat a balanced diet and maybe quit your job or newspaper position.

I might have to start hiding my computer and only using it after I've finished all my schoolwork.

I don't want to fail any classes! I can still pass my classes. I just have to really bust my butt these next few weeks, but I think (er, I hope) I can do it. I have a hard time sleeping at night. I usually go to bed around 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning. I don't eat very well either. A lot of on-the-go food (fast food) in the morning and afternoon. Sometimes I eat oatmeal at our school's cafeteria. It's cheap but it's not that good.

My job is pretty flexible and so is my newspaper position. I can manage them for the most part. It's my classes and schoolwork I'm having a hard time with.

I been juggling work, volunteer stuff and school since 10th grade, so I kinda get wht u mean OP. I will be so tired whn I came home, it takes a lot of effort to force myself to study. Now my body is wired to sleeping around 4 hours per day at most because I can only concentrate on my work late at night. When u feel tired and can't focus, take 10 min breaks by walking around ur room after each hour of study. When do u feel u are in ur study zone, afternoon, midnight,..? Make yourself free around then and block out other distractions. If some online sites are too much addictive for u, keep away until summer break comes.
