If you are failing multiple classes, Harvard is not a realistic option.

I have made these two classes up with 95+ in Summer School. The reason I failed was because I was in the Hospital for my Typhoid fever.

My freshman year grades were A’s and B’s.
I am heading into my Junior year and I have already studied all the materials in this summer for the classes I’ll be taking such as AP U.S History, Pre-Cal, AP Physics, AP Music History, English III, AP Computer Science, Health Science Technology. I am honestly trying my hardest to get A’s in all my classes so I can make up for my 67 and 69.

Also as you can see I am a person willing to take challenging courses that the school offers. In my Junior year I’ll be taking four AP classes and 3 regular classes.

This may not be enough for my dreams, but I am trying my hardest for a jump ahead.

Thanks for your friendly comments Blackbanana and silverturtle.
Blackbanana, I really appreciate your understanding.

Your omission in the second sentence speaks volumes. ;)

“Your omission in the second sentence speaks volumes.”

:(

No, silverturtle - you got the wrong symbol. It’s “.”

:)

I found a flaw in your advice :)

When you said “your essay = you, NOT you=your essay”.

It’s pretty much like saying “10-5=5, NOT 5=10-5”

It’s still the same thing if you put it anyway because of the commutative property <.< :D

I did not mean it like that silver turtle. I really appreciate your honesty.

Its just that its all been happening so fast that I haven’t even had a chance to say something and make a change. I am sincerely wanting to go to an Ivy League school, but things just didn’t take the right turn. Is there still anything I can do besides what I have done this summer to prepare myself for the most looked at year by Universities (Junior year)?

I believe there’s only so much you can do. Just make sure you work hard but save time for things that you really enjoy doing like Kung Fu. If you join certain clubs that you think will “impress” Harvard they’ll see right though that. Admission committee does have a heart so that might consider you’re recovery as a reason for ur bad grades. Also, they’ll see your major turning point as evidence of you caring about college and really trying to go to a good college… Actually, ur situation can almost be seen as a “hook”.

Silverturtle, you seem to have to have posted before me in every thread i go to!

Lowelbell- thanks for the advice. I visited Harvard last year, and some students i met said the same thing.

All my EC’s are ones i love doing, but if asked to choose one, i wouldn’t be able to. I also wouldn’t say there’s been any one particular event in my life that’s changed/impacted it. So i’m uncertain what to base my essay on exactly. Any advice?

Thanks for the advise Blackbanana, you really have given me a new vision on things.
If I have any issues or concerns do you mind if I drop by a message?

Thanks,
goodday94

No I don’t mind. I also have a passion for Harvard. I’ll be a senior this year so I’m doing all it takes b/c i don’t have much time. . . But Im very confident in myself and my abilities. I might be a little too confident for my own good but w/e.

would it be terrible if I have one C on my transcript? My freshman and sophomore years are straight A’s but during junior some stuff happened at home (parents divorce/grandfather diagnosed with cancer/close relative diagnosed with terminal illness) and my grades went down a little bit (one C and a few B’s). the classes related to my passion/possible major are still all A’s and the teachers and counselor all understand what i went through. also, i ended up getting an A in that particular class second semester.

gpa is still 3.88

One C with your other stats is not going to break you. Your GPA is still high and you made up for it second semester. Your GPA is still higher than mine and ive never had a C.

Well, it could. Context, however, will work in your favor.

what exactly do you mean by context?

^ Your family troubles.

There’s a section on the application (called “Special Circumstances,” I think) where you can indicate any unforeseen problems that occurred in high school that negatively affected your grades. Terminal illnesses among close relatives certainly constitute “Special Circumstances,” and the admissions office will give you some leniency with grades and such during the affected period. When my sister was in high school, she basically had to take a couple months off in order to help take care of my grandparents when they were having health problems, and indicated this on her college application.

So it’s actually just a little bit favorable in the eyes of AdCom?

also, i’m not urm or anything

BUMP 10 char
