how to get into med school

Hi anyone who is in medical school or is already a doctor can you please give me advice on how you got into med school. Is it really hard?? Were your grades like beyond excellent please let me know.

By the way happy holidays everyone!

Grades usually have to be good, but they don’t have to be “beyond excellent.” The national average for students who get into medical school is about 3.6 – in other words, roughly two-third A’s and one-third B’s.

The toughest hurdle for most is the MCAT. The national average for the MCAT is something like a 31 – roughly the 70th percentile among test-takers. And that’s already the pool that has the grades for it.

Additionally, you need strong extracurricular activities, including hospital experience, and you need to manage the application cycle very well – mostly by writing good essays and writing them FAST. If you can get those four things done, you’re in good shape.

thanks bro your advice was very useful!

I think BDM meant to say that the national average for accepted students is a 31, the national average for all students who take the mcats is around a 24.

Also if you want to shoot for a top medical school, you should strive for a 3.75+ and a 34+
