Hello. I am currently a sophomore who wants to apply to an ivy league school or a top school for business or the arts. I have a passion for both, but I am leaning more towards business since art is so hard to solely survive off of. My school offers DECA, which is a business class and every year they go and compete at state. I’m not sure if I should take that class since it does not raise my gpa, but it is a business and marketing class. I’ve looked at a lot of people’s EC and things they have done and feel like I am not doing as much as they are doing. What things should I do to improve my application and chances of getting into an ivy league or top school?
Freshman gpa: 4.0 (weighted and unweighted)
Current gpa: 4.0 (unweighted) 4.33 (weighted)
Class rank: 1/152
Sophomore PSAT: 1090
Ap chinese: 5
Sat chinese 2: 790
Currently taking ap chinese at school and apwh
EC’s
-president of mandarin tutor club
-president of young inventor’s club (probably going to end it)
-speech and debate club (went to competitions)
-piano cm level 8 (hopefully level 10 by senior year and qualified for branch honors and convention)
-played chinese harp for 8 years
-volunteer at my church since 8th grade
-Leo club (volunteered at feed my starving children)
-HOBY leadership youth seminar (one from each school and I believe only 4 people were selected from my state)
-Winner of 2018 dog art tshirt design contest
-published artist in celebrating art book several times
-honorable mention in california bird art contest
-Academic decathlon
-participant in state mandarin speech competition
-Student of the Year Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (currently raising money for the competition)
Here’s a list of things I’m going to do junior year. What should I keep and cut so it will improve my application and make it stand out?
-president of art club and business (art for the community=community service and business for FBLA) these two clubs will be created during my junior year.
-planning to start my own online business
-planning to perform at places with Chinese harp and senior residency for piano
Please be brutally and not sugar coat things. Thank you.
