How to get off the waitlist for Middlebury - International Financial Aid Applicant

Hey guys, I found out I got waitlisted from Middlebury a few days ago, but I've kind of been hoping for an acceptance from one of the Ivies I applied to. But since that didn't happen, I really want to get off the waitlist for Middlebury. Is there anything I can do?

Here are my stats:

SAT I: 2230 -- CR 750, Mat 790, WRT 690
SAT II: 2300 -- Maths II 790, Physics 760, English Literature 750

I'm doing CIE A Levels, from New Zealand
4.25 GPA from school counselor, cause I do courses a year in advance of my peers

Great ECs, community service, student mentor

5 excellent recommendations from teachers/employers

Heaps of certificates for high distinction from Australasia science and maths competitions, placed in top 99% on the continent.

Lived in 3 countries, originally from China, went to highschool in Nottingham England, moved to Auckland New Zealand.

Here's what I didn't tell Middlebury:

Mum's an alumini from Nottingham University, did her masters in International Business, graduated with Distinction (only 1 in her class). Could be a possible liasson for an exchange programme.

I'm also going to be part of a lecturing tour in China, organised by Syracuse University. 20 Sophomores from US colleges are going to visit banks/companies in Shanghai/Beijing/Shenzheng in June this year. My dad is one of the organisers along with a professor from Syracuse University. I'm going to be the students' guide/translator in China. This is an ongoing programme, it happens every year, so I go back every year. Possible liasson for Middlebury?

Maybe I can use these to add to the Middlebury supplement essay I turned in?

I graduated in December 2008, so I have no more grades to show Middlebury, the report I submitted was my end of year report, cause we finish half a year early in NZ.

Got accepted into Colby, which I'm thrilled about, but Middlebury would be the next step up.

One last thing, I applied for financial aid, my parents are contributing $10,000 a year only.

Your application looks pretty good already. Im also from Nottingham England and hoping to get into Middlebury!
What EC’s do you have?
There really important but im struggling to find any good ones around here!
Maybe in your essay talk ALOT about your cultural background and how you wish to bring your experiences to the college. It will make you seem interesting and worldly.
What type of community service did you do too?
And maybe it would be a good idea to mention your mum, maybe say that its inspired you to move somewhere international. Then they could see that you have the right motives. Im not sure, I cant think of anything to make it better!
But you should deffinately mention the tour, that will show that you are using your cultural background to help others.
Hope that helps, though it probably wont:) xx

Call, ask to talk to the person who is in charge of your application, and ask what you can do to make your application stronger. Then do it. If you know a Midd alum, or other possibly influential person, ask them to call, and write a letter supporting you. Be sure you tell Midd they are your first choice, and WHY. Send a supplemental package with any relevant materials, especially pushing the China connection. That is probably more useful than the Nottingham. Don’t be a pest, but absolutely make a personal contact.
My S got in off the wait list last year using the above strategy.Good luck, he loves it.

Just going to point out that the OP wrote that post a year ago at the end of March. So I am doubtful he is still in need of advice.

My face is red-didn’t look at the original date, just under recent posts…

The information that OldbatesieDoc posted is helpful to me now (i was just deferred and plan on possibly trying the above strategy), so I’m glad you posted it. Any other advice out there?
