How to Get Started on the Music Performance Search?

<p>workingforblue- Welcome. There are many on the board with students in vocal programs. I'm not one of them, but to get you started:</p>

<p>It would help if you outlined specific areas of your d's interests: classical, jazz, music theater, her current level, years of study/training, experience. It helps in offering suggestions. If music theater, you definately want to check that forum as well. </p>

<p>Perhaps there's info you both can share.</p>

Thanks Imperial...I do monitor the Musical Theater forum as well. Still trying to figure out what aspect of performance D wants to pursue...hopefully college visits will help with this.</p>

<p>I'm new here (just did my first post yesterday). I would like to add one more item that my DS is doing that has been VERY helpful in the search for which schools best suit him. It has worked quite well!</p>

<p>Have your child(ren) register on myspace and set up a site. My suggestion is to set up a musical site rather than a personal site. He/she can then add several compositions of themselves playing. Musicians love to listen to each other. Then they can access the search features, and filter by college and major. Have him/her send private messages to music majors and also "friend" them. You would be surprised what students will share about the programs, instructors and everything else. </p>
