I am planning to visit a school this friday, which is really prestigious, and my high school college counselor has advised me to meet up with a professor in the majors I am considering, which are bio or general engineering, I guess just to show interest and ask questions??! How should I go about doing this, and what types of questions should I ask? I would so appreciate any help on this!!
Some colleges will let you sit in on a class. You can email profs from the website and ask to meet. But if you are just doing it to help admissions chances and don’t really have questions, don’t bother. It won’t help you get in.
Call admissions office and ask if it’s possible to sit in on a class. Try to get there a little early, so you can introduce yourself to the prof (if s/he isn’t one of those that comes running in at the last moment…) and thank him for letting you sit in. After the class would be a good opportunity as well.
Sometimes just taking some time to walk through the main building for the major you are interested in…there might be research posters hanging, or other stuff to see, etc…and there might be grad students or profs with their door’s open…
Call the department you are interested in and find out when the professors have office hours
