Does georgetown play navy in basketball? I think someone mentioned something about that.

Yes- and usually win too! :(

but the good news is that georgetown ALWAYS sends bus-loads of students down to the game if it is at Annapolis so might want to attend if the schedule has it at Navy this year!

Flip flops on the yard are fine- so are shorts. Again, dress neat, and I would agree to keep it on the conservative side.

Do send your caramel brownies....just seal them in a zip lock bag and wrap with some paper towels or tissue paper.... the flat rate boxes from the post office are pretty strong and work well. Just remember that during plebe summer, cadre (upperclass summer trainers) MIGHT check what's being delivered in the box (brownies are ok) and MAY have your plebe "pass them around" to his company mates. This changes from company to company- so might, and might not, apply. But just in case that is the practice in his company, make sure to "pack extra" and don't put anything in the box that might get your plebe in trouble (ie: watch, telephone, any music-playing device, etc).....

It's America . . . you too have the right to join the legions of fat, ugly Americans wearing shorts and "I'm with Stupid" T-shirts who populate most every tourist attraction in America [in the world]. There might not be as many FUgA at USNA as there are at Disneyland, but they are there.
There are no particular restrictions on what you can wear at the Academy [flip-flops have, indeed, taken over everywhere] although I think a six-shooter strapped to your waist might be frowned upon.

Having said that, you might feel a bit out of sorts standing next to a crisply dressed mid if you are in a sloppy t-shirt and torn pants. For the most part, don't worry about it.

Annapolis is one of the GREAT towns in America--it holds it own next Carmel CA, Key West, FL, or any other quaint town next to the sea, as well as Lake Tahoe, NV or Aspen, CO,--for walking around.

Let's see, apart from the football games, there are a couple of dances to which you cold be invited--so take at least one nice dress w/ you to school--and several concerts [Comedians and singers] to which tickets may be purchased. Given the size of the venue and the preference mids are give for tickets, this is an opportunity to see a show up close. That is, if you can drage yourself away from the GT scene. My son's friend is currently in Japan finishing up her year away.

Do not worry about flip flops or denim or even try to dress up. We do not care, AT ALL. When most of us are on leave we dress casually and wear tank tops and skirts and jeans. Even on the yard when we're allowed. It won't bring any undue attention to your friend because no one pays attention to them outside of the hall. If an upperclass sees y'all together he would probably just make a joke about y'all being together or something, it wouldn't be a big deal.
I second sending food and letters, but the letters might be more appreciated by girl mids, I dunno about that.
Have fun at all the dances and stuff, make him take you, they're great places to meet guys, because they seem to always want to dance with anyone who's not in uniform.

I must look like a huge slob when I go on the yard. I do not get dressed up in any way shape or form. Wear what you want! With that long trip on public transportation you will need to be comfy.

I was the opposite as a mid, trying to catch a ride to georgetown on many weekends as a youngster. Depending on how willing you are to deal with public transportation it is definitely doable. My brother used to live in the Federal Hill section of Baltimore and I was able to catch a bus that went from a block outside gate 3 to Patapsco, which was about a 5-10 drive from my brothers. Granted, the trip did take upwards of 90 minutes (vice 30 or 35 when you just shoot up 97) but as a youngster or 2/c without a car, it was worth it.
