How to Impress Adcoms with your Extracurriculars

this is quite good.anyways hiiiiiiiii to all my frnds

i started preparing for college in 4th grade… some of my ec’s are piano <lev. 8="">
tae-kwon-do <3rd degree> art <about 3="" years=""> debate club <2 years>, and tennis < 4 years> … i’ll be building it up more until 12th grade… but is this ok so far if i want to get into an ivy college? </about></lev.>

*** im in 8th grade

the only really cool EC or award that I think would impress collegereps was getting a Gold Award and being a Finalist at the Illinois State Scince Fair…pretty good. I just wish I had more awards like that.

ty?..

No Jason. You won’t get in. Most of us start preparing before kindergarten.

^lol.

actually, that’s a good idea. start a sport at age 3 and become recruitable by college admissions time

If someone could help me out, that would be great:

planned focus areas:

Language:

  • language club
  • online latin class, eventually natl. latin exams
  • hebrew class
  • in-school spanish

Writing:

  • Newspaper
  • Debate
  • writing contests
  • eventually applying to TASP/TASS

Jewish-ness:

  • hebrew class fits into this category, too
  • temple youth group (eventually president?)
  • volunteering at synagogue on a regular basis

Next year I plan to start a chapter of the Young Democrats of America at my high school (junior year), and right now I’m asking the national group if there already is one for the county (albany), and if not, me and my friends are going to try to help make one countywide too.

Would this kind of EC be good for colleges like Cornell, Chicago, and other elite ones? The biggest thing I’m worried about is the partisanship factor when I apply to college, if some hardcore republican sees my application and rejects me because of that, or if a democrat officer rejects me because he doesnt want to seem like hes going easy on democrats. =\

wow, very nice post

fhimas88888888… are u cereal?

Cereal? Huh?

Hahaha n00bs, I’ve been doing it since I was a year old :stuck_out_tongue:

cereal = serious o_o"

Of course we’re serious, you’ve never looked at our resumes have you?

Having started preparing for the SAT’s while my fellow preschoolers were napping, I find your elementary school preparation is comical. You think Baby Genius is just a DVD series???

Ah yay NHD! someone posted it a few pages back.

i competed this year and got 7th in senior individual exhibit at nationals. i love that stuff so much haha.

I began preparing for my SAT’s before they were invented

=P

Would tutoring younger siblings count as an EC? I have three brothers, and I’ve spent time every week tutoring them/checking over their homework since at least 9th grade. (btw, this is unpaid)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

i changed my little cousin’s diaper, how many points do i get for selflessness??

you’re so horribly benighted!

^It’s more like 4-5 hours a week, but I’m going to take that as a no…lol.
