I’m a junior and I took my first ACT in September with no prep and got a 33! I’m happy with this score I’m taking it again because my state has a required one for all juniors or 4/28. It’d be really cool to raise my composite a point or two but I’m not sure how easy it will be when I’m already in a high range. I have the barron’s 36 guide.
Has anyone else improved a 30+ score on their second test? What did you do?
This past September, I took the test for the first time and got a 30 off a decent amount of prep. I scored a 34 a month later.
Practice will obviously help, particularly in English and science. I would get some practice tests for sure, the red book is pretty good for that. At the high end, you need to not only know what you are getting wrong but why. Identify patterns in what you are missing. Practice more and perfect it. A tutor would always help. You should improve just from taking it again, provided the tests are of similar difficulty. Nail down your routine the day of the test, eat and sleep well, and try to relax and decompress as much as possible while taking the test. When I got my 34, I just relaxed after math and english when I had extra time rather than overthink it and stress out. I finished the last two sections much better.
In the end, 33 is already an outstanding score. Don’t stress out too much over that last point or two.
