Ok, I don't want to seem like a show-off, so I created this username for the sake of remaining anonymous while I ask this question. I won't even tell you if I'm male or female.

Anyway, I'm quite clueless as to how I could launch an acting/modeling career here in the US. I know it's extremely difficult to get noticed and one must face several rejections before finally becoming successful (if success happens at all), but I think I'm willing to at least give it a try. I don't fit the "hot" profile, but people do turn their heads when I walk by, (I think) because they're intrigued by the fresh and rare look and appeal that I'm told I possess.

I've had experience in modeling/acting field before but only when I was younger and still living in a different country. I've posed for several magazines and taken prominent roles in plays (lead roles in children's plays), but when I moved to the US, I lost interest in it and concentrated instead on my studies. My heart just wasn't in it. However, my interest has been rekindled now that I'm headed to college in the fall (in a big city where I would get to live on my own). I hope the city would provide me plenty of opportunities to audition and such. The independence from my parents would give me more freedom to do those things at my own discretion.

People constantly tell me that I should consider acting/modeling as a sideline at least, because my profile (race/gender combination) is typically underrepresented in the media, especially in clothing catalogs. I'm actually of mixed race, but the underrepresented race is more apparent in my physical features.

How difficult is it to launch an acting/modeling career in the US, and how do I get started?
