How to prepare for a PhD?

Hi! I recenlty was admitted to an MA program and I plan to continue and pursue a PhD when I'm done. As I applied to grad school, I learned a lot of things that I feel would've been useful had I known then in my sophomore and freshman years (research matters, LORs, etc). My question is, how do I prepare for a PhD? What steps should I follow to have a good shot at entering a good program once I finish? Aside from grades, what other things should I be worrying about?

I did get into a good masters program, but I want to upgrade for the PhD. I am going to re-take the GRE (it is good for 5 years, right?), but what else should I do to be that student that gets into his/her first choice school, gets funding, etc???

Any input will be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Not sure whether your MA program includes a large research component, but that should be what you're focusing on. At the grad level grade inflation is high (or at least getting Bs is uncommon...maybe people are just more studious), so a high grad GPA, even from a good program, won't be a big factor in your admission.
