Well, I took the SAT in my junior year last year and ended up getting only an 1810 =(. I'm gonna be retaking the test in October and I'm aiming for at least a 2100. The first time I took the test, I spent maybe like 3 days total studying combined with only 4 hrs. of sleep and no breakfast before I left to take the test, but really though, I have no clue how to study for this test or whether I will up my score by 290 pts. I bought "The Official SAT Study Guide" by the College Board a couple of months ago and I'm barely cracking open the book. So anyways, if people can give me some study tips or recommend me some good books so I can actually achieve my target score. I'm not really aiming for a 2400, just a 2100 will suffice, but meh.. anything higher wouldn't hurt.

what was the breakdown of your score (CR, M, W), and what did you get on your essay?

Was it a speed problem? For me, I just take practice tests in a quite room with a timer and go over the questions I get wrong afterwards.

540 CR
650 Math
620 Writing

Anyways yea, hoping to keep this thread alive and find some advice in studying for the SAT.

lol thats exactly what I got except math and writing were vise versa

cr is the hardest to improve so i would worry about that last if i were you. but when you get to it, focus more about finding the answer in the passage then learning a lot of vocab words. just do a lot of practice with the passages until you learn the patterns of what the sat asks for. for math, i would try getting a workbook and reviewing stuff that you have learned, but forgotten. then if you have more time, learn anything that you havent already learned. for writing, learn the basic rules that are almost always on the test. i posted them on this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=332365.

overall, just do a lot of practice and your score should improve over time. hope this helps, good luck.

my bro took the CR as a freshmen and got a 500 CR. Kept the SAT in perspective and studied on weekends and during the summer and throughout the school year. Got a 710 October of his senior year. During his junior year summer he read a lot of novels and that must have helped a lot.

Well, since you didn't really practice at all the first time, that's pretty much what you need to do. Get a review book for strategy (I liked PR), and read through it to learn more about the test. Then start taking practice tests, untimed at first. Get some workbooks if you need them for math and verbal.

But you won't get anywhere if you don't crack open a book. :-) You don't need a detailed study plan; just get started.
