My D forgot a very important honor (National Merit) on her common app that has been submitted to six schools, probably because she filled the application out in August and became so focused on the essays that she didn't notice she left out this recent honor. We realize we cannot update the common app, so we think the best course of action is that she send an email to each Admissions Office and ask that they add this information to the Honors Section of her application. Alternatively, she could send a letter. Does anyone have a better idea or can anyone relay personal experience with this type of dilemma? We just want to make sure the honor is considered for both entrance and merit based scholarships. She just submitted her application this weekend. Can anyone comment on whether it is better to follow up on this mistake immediately, or wait until the colleges have had a chance to process her application?

Hi, I know this is a late reply, but I recently asked about the same issue. I was not recognized as highly as your daughter (I am only a Commended Scholar), but I have been advised to send a short email to the schools I applied to (at least the ones pending decision) notifying them of this distinction. It is definitely something to be proud of and will add to her application without a doubt!

Thanks for your reply. She ended up sending a short email that attached a letter explaining the situation. All her schools replied to the email and indicated the new information would be added to her application, so I think at the end of the day this will work out. Good luck to you.
