hi, i was wondering how important the essays were for intel and how they should be written in order to help you win. any other hints/suggestions

Important for Intel/STS. Answer honestly. Show a passion for scientific inquiry. For Intel/STS the rest of application is very important too, especially course selection: Most advanced Math and Science in your HS (with good grades), specific details of your accomplishments in recs from mentor/teachers. Read bios of most recent finalists. They are more than their projects.

Does this mean you do not have a mercenary adult writing it for you? How novel!

Essays are relatively unimportant; I wrote mine the day of the competition and still did reasonably well at Intel (though I did not enter siemens).

Does Siemens now have essays? In S1’s time, it was the research paper and recommendations (including from supervising mentor), and that was it.

Essays are very important for Intel. They like to have the back story.
