How useful is ORFE for people who want to go into politics?

I think want to study data science and machine learning and ideally be able to apply that to either politics or sports. However, I’m not sure about what I want to do, so I want a major that will give me a lot of options. Do you think ORFE as a concentration could make sense? I just feel like it’s such a useful major and seems incredibly interesting, but if the program in reality isn’t really applicable to what I might want to do, then I’ll take that into consideration.

My son is ORFE (class of 2020). He has been able to take a bunch of classes not related to his concentration, everything from architecture of medieval castles, to nuclear proliferation. I think you can study ORFE and apply it easily to sports or political science, everything is driven by data!

Your grades may take a hit, an ORFE BSE is harder than a humanities AB for most people. But if you like data science, go for it!

I agree with the above. ORFE gives you plenty of opportunities to take courses across other fields. And, as already mentioned, data science and applied math are playing increasingly important roles in political campaigns. A limited number of people have the math skills for this. Same goes for data analytics in sports and almost every other field.
