How valuable are Graduate/Post-bachelors certificates?

<p>How valuable are Graduate/Post-bachelors certificates?</p>

<p>Obviously they are not a substitute for a MA or MS, but are they a good way to build your resume and knowledge base?
What if they are acquired through distance learning?
(Cornell, Penn State, U Mass..... not U of Phoenix or Kaplan!)</p>

<p>Sure, they can be helpful (sometimes essential). Depends what you want to do…</p>

<p>They have some value, but not much - because the terminology is highly varied, no one knows what the certificates really mean. Did you get it by taking a week-long course, or by doing 6 grad courses (JHU’s criteria)?</p>

<p>I would look at these programs as opportunities to learn more about a specific area without the time and expense of a masters. Do not look at them as a great resume booster, however.</p>
