How will getting a C+ for a Preap chem class affect my chances of going into a decent university?

I am currently a sophomore in high school and just received my very first c+ on my report card, in a pre-ap chemistry class. I am an A/B student and I tried my hardest to achieve good scores in chemistry but it just wasn’t enough. Now i’m freaking out because of the fear that colleges will look at that one C+ and lower my chances of getting accepted. I just started my second semester, and my goal is to pass the class with an A, if not, then a B.

Relax! Keep in mind that you can still improve your grade in the second semester. Try going to your teacher for help and explain how you have been studying. In the grand scheme of things, colleges want to see your overall performance and one C will not ruin your entire application. Try outbalancing the C by trying you best on the SAT or ACT and learn from your mistakes! Colleges will also take into account your extracurriculars and courseload.
