Well damn…thank you for clearing that up

fluteloop i havent been on the WVU sight in a while but it must be new thank you a lot for showing me that

*W&M OOS tuition

$24,609

UH at Manoa OOS tuition

$30,524

Where are you getting your information??*

Your info isn’t correct…You might be looking at the “per semester” cost or maybe only the tuition cost.

The cost of W&M is TWICE your estimate, so you must be looking at the per-semester cost.

The cost of UH-Manoa is around $39k per year for an OOS student PLUS pricey air travel. I don’t know where you’re getting your estimate from…

OOS tuition is about $27k per year, then you have to add another $11-13k for room, board, books.

Neither of these schools are affordable.

For young people who are just starting to look, the college sites are confusing. Some include everything for a yearly cost of attendance, but most do not. MikeCKY will get the hang of it.

Take the advice you are getting here about applying to schools that meet need. You will find something that works well for you, mikeCKY.

Yes it is confusing, and mom2collegekids instead of pointing out the obvious why don’t you tell me something I can do. Thank you MD Mom

If what mom2collegekids pointed out was so “obvious”, how did you miss it entirely? She has phenomenal expertise and selflessly uses her spare time to help hundreds on the Financial Aid forum. Pay attention to every word she posts.

MikeCKY, some posters appear abrupt when you are getting used to this site, but you will gain lots of valuable information if you just hang in here. And mom2collegekids tells it like it is, but she knows what she is talking about AND she is helpful. When you have been on here as long as some of us have been, you might find that there will be posters you will just ignore: m2ck will not be one that you will ignore.

with Pell Grant, WV state grant and other possible grants an scholarships for which you may qualify WVU could end up being affordable for you. In addition to grants and scholarships you are eligible as a freshman to take $5500 in Direct Loans, and might qualify for Perkins Loan as well. Staying in state for undergrad is likely a very doable option for you.

<a href=“Scholarships | Financial Aid | West Virginia University”>Scholarships | Financial Aid | West Virginia University;

Also look at private and OOS schools that might give you SIGNIFICANT merit for your stats. You will need to look for full tuition scholarships at the very least. Even then the room, board, books, and travel are likely to cost 10,000 - 15,000 per year. This might be doable with Direct Loan of $5500, the additional $4000 you would qualify to borrow if your mom applies and is denied for a Parent PLUS loan, and earnings from a summer and an on campus job.

The regular posters on this board have a lot of expertise. They will be able to help direct you towards viable, affordable options.

All the best :)

mikeCKY, I understand wanting to go away and do something fun & different for college. Unfortunately, that will have to wait until later in life. If you stick with what works for college, you can graduate with minimal debt and be able to do whatever you want with your life … instead of getting stuck at home while you pay off massive debt. WVU seems to be a very affordable option, so you should definitely apply there. Check out other schools where you might receive merit aid (CC has lots of great info, if you search). Check out Questbridge ([QuestBridge Home](http://www.questbridge.org/)). Best of luck to you.

Thank you to the above posters for your kind words. :)

Mike…

It sounds like UWV may have your major, and if it (or the state) has an aid program that will work for you, then that can be a safety school if you can determine that need will be met.

Most OOS publics will not likely work for you because the costs will be high and aid won’t be good.

you might want to look at some mid-level privates that would be generous to you…maybe some that want more males.

My apologies, by the way, mom2collegekids. I misread the information.
