So I was thinking of getting a job during summer break (not under the counter), but my friend pointed out that the taxes I paid in that may lower the amount of financial aid I get (which I really need).

Will this happen?

I will be a first year student at UCLA.

I think this is true. I’m going to coach tennis because my mom said they don’t keep track of under the counter payment as you said, but if you receive any paycheck from a store, restaurant, firm, company, etc., you have to report it to UCLA, and that would be part of your EFC from then on.

Yes, i think your friend is right. So decide according to your conditions.

If you make enough money, it will affect your EFC. The FAFSA asks whether you will file for federal taxes, how much income you make, how much of that is a form of financial assistance (work-study), etc. If you only make a couple hundred dollars, it probably won’t hurt your EFC too much.
