Hello,
I am an international student studying in India.
Basically every year until this year, I have been a straight A's/mostly As plus few B's student.
In my 12th grade midterms, I got two A's in Physics and Chem and two B's in English and Comp. But the real bummer is a C in Math. (I just dont get calculus)
So, I am wondering how will this affect my chances? I am applying early action. My teacher recs are very good and my SAT and TOEFL scores are 2240 and 116.
So basically academically I am above average except for that one math grade.
I am thinking about attaching a note basically explaining my bad grade, saying that it was because of unpreparedness for a certain topic, which is true.
What do you guys think? Will that one bad grade hurt? (It sure cant help :P)

I would not add a note about the C in calculus. I think it may backfire but
Is just my opinion. My question to you would be if you really
Dont get calculus are you sure that GT is the right fit for you?
If its just a case of needing more studying thats fine but if not you
Need to look at how much math GT requires for the major
You are thinking about. Your SAT score is good so I dont think the
One C is going to make that much of a difference. Good luck

Can you explain why you think it will backfire ?

Because they may think you are trying to make an excuse for the grade you got. If for example someone’s parent or close relative died or something serious like that and they had bad grades for a semester then yes that’s a reason to put in a note. But not because you weren’t prepared for a certain subject. But again that’s just my opinion.

That makes sense. I decided to not explain the grade because what you said is right. Thanks for replying. I was getting kinda stressed out because of that one grade so your replies were very helpful thanks again. I’ll let you know how it works out :)
