How will schools be able to tell if I'm a strong writer?

A week ago I took my ACT again for the second time (fyi I have Special Testing) and while I think that I did better on my composite score overall I'm not so sure about the Writing portion. Last time I received an 8, which isn't bad by any means, but it isn't spectacular either. I've been told that this is who schools are able to get a glimpse at our writing ability and I'm afraid that score might indicate that I'm a sub-par or a bad writer. However, I know from the feedback that I get from my teachers and just from any adult that has gone over the papers I write for school and otherwise that I am a vey strong writer.

I had the fortune of having two spectacular writing teachers who taught me to write like a college student, and I definitely know that I'm not a sub-par writer by any means. However, how will schools be able to tell this? I'm not able to get a recommendation from the one of my two great writing teachers and I'm afraid a college might think that my writing isn't where it should be. Would they look at test scores, submitted AP exams etc.? If it's any help I got a 5 on my APUSH exam and I got a 700+ on my Lit SAT II. Sorry if seem neurotic, but this just feels like another pile of stress upon the piles of stress that I already have.

**I apologize if this was supposed to be posted in the ACT section, I wasn't sure where to put it.

…your application essays

Well yes, that’s obvious. I guess my question was if my ACT writing score was going to be a detriment to me. I’m sorry if I didn’t make that clear.

No one cares about writing!

Your actual writing in the app and LoR comments about your strengths will be quite telling. Use the essays and any short answers wisely. What you present in the app isn’t quite the same as a hs writing assignment.

Well I’ve gotten good feedback so far on the essay, but that’s good to know. Thanks @lookingforward
