how would my ECs rank/compared to other people’s?

I’d like to consider my ECs to be at least decent, but in all honesty I have no idea how they compare or if they stack up compared to other high schoolers. Thanks!

-Editor of school art/writing publication 11th/12th grade (also involved as an underclass man)
-Scholastic Gold Key and American Voices nominee
-Volleyball, varsity captain senior year
-Awards from a few smaller poetry contests
-Red Cross, president senior year
-Editor of school STEM publication 11th/12th grade
-Internship at Motion Picture Corporation of America and kinda Netflix for screenwriting
-Semifinalist at a national debate tournament, plus placed with speaker awards at some smaller competitions

This feels a bit like trying to compare apples and oranges. Colleges aren’t even attempting to “stack up” everyone’s ECs. They’re building a class and determing if and how you’ll fit in and in what ways you might contribute to the college community (and the more selective the college, the higher the expectation in that regard). What kinds of colleges are you striving for? If you’re hoping for a STEM major, your ECs probably aren’t going to be very competitive, but if your goal is to be an English major, you’re looking fairly strong and well-rounded. It is difficult to guess or anticipate what each college wants/needs. It sounds cliched to say, “Just strive to do your best”, but it is true that when you do, you’ll find more opportunities present themselves. Worry more about finding and taking advantage of those opportunities than how your ECs or your application stacks up against everyone else’s.

Agree with the above. Colleges want to see 2-4 years of commitment to an activity. I actually like your Ecs. You definitely have a writing /journalism vibe. I assume you did volleyball more then a year also.
Do things that you enjoy and not ones you think colleges want to see. Don’t compare yourself to others also. You are an unique person and shouldn’t care really what others are doing.
