Lets say top 10
Which school is top 10?
Top 11:
Georgetown
Boston College
Holy Cross
Fordham
Marquette/Santa Clara
Loyola-Chicago/St.Louis
Gonzaga
Xavier-Cinci
Loyola Marymount
What factors are they being ranked on?
Georgetown is obviously a premier university. Boston College is also outstanding with a great campus close to downtown Boston. Academics at Holy Cross are as good as anywhere, and Worcester has experienced a lot of redevelopment in recent years. It’s very competitive but not nearly as so as Georgetown, and not as much as BC.
Santa Clara has a very beautiful campus right in Silicon Valley, which provides lots of opportunities, and very nice weather. It has some very strong programs. It was one of the top choices for one of mine (who was accepted ED elsewhere).
I’d definitely put Creighton in the Top 10. I just wrote this in another post:
I’ll add that Omaha is a nice city that seems to be doing very well. The main downtown restaurant/bar area is about a 15-minute walk from one end of the campus. It’s the Old Market area and has lots of old 19th-century buildings. The Creighton campus is sort of long and thin with most of the buildings off a walk that passes through them. The school hosts the College World Series, and it’s played in a new-ish stadium adjacent to campus. It’s all nice, and school seems to be on an upswing. Only downside, for me, is an elevated highway runs directly between the school and downtown. It’s not very visible from campus, but you can hear it. To get downtown and Old Market area you can easily walk along under the highway a few blocks down and a few over. It all seemed pretty safe except that one would generally not want to be walking back to campus late at night–still a city, not a bubble. I’ve only visited so I can’t speak to the culture, but I can second the above comment that alums I’ve met really seemed to have enjoyed the school and appreciate the opportunities that it provided.
I’m less familiar with the others but want to add that YOUR ranking is most important. Which one best suits YOU? That is more important than any ranking based on criteria that may not fit your interests very well. Good luck!
I’m all for liking Jesuit schools, but none of these are top-10 on any mainstream rankings - Georgetown usually receives a top-20 ranking, and BC and HC a top 30-40 ranking.
Well, I guess a few poor, unfortunate souls have to consider schools not ranked in the Top 10 nationally. Some even have to settle for not going to Georgetown, a piddly Top 20’er. Perhaps we can just pray for them.
(JK, OP was looking for Top 10 Jesuit schools, not Jesuit schools in Top 10)
Of course I’m biased as an HC alum, but I’d put BC and HC for a tie. One’s a university, the other a liberal arts college. Pick your preferred mode of higher ed :). Admittedly, BC is more competitive from an admissions perspective these days (driven by sports and location), but I would still argue the quality of education is better at HC. But it’s splitting hairs, really. Both great schools. Agree Georgetown #1, and with the rest of moooop’s list.
There are other excellent Jesuit schools! On the website listing Jesuit schools, there are about 20 colleges and universities around the country. Reputation has lots to do with location, famous graduates, sports…Check out the website.
I don’t believe Jesuits provide poor educational opportunities. Regis University in Denver is excellent. I receive the monthly magazine for alums. Lots going on that is truly wonderful. Regis is located in north west Denver so you would be stuck with the view of the Rockies.
As Jesuit schools go, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Holy Cross and Boston College are probably the best.
Except that Note Dame is not jesuit.
I do not believe that Notre Dame is a Jesuit university… I believe it is one of the higher education institutions affiliated with the Congregation of the Holy Cross. So, Catholic, but not Jesuit.

Huh, did not know that. wondered why no one else had mentioned it.
Correct. And Holy Cross is Jesuit, not affiliated with the Congregation of the Holy Cross, to make it even more confusing!
^^ But the tiny Holy Cross College in Indiana is affiliated with the Congregation of the Holy Cross - more confusion!
Right, and the one in IN is affiliated with Notre Dame! Yet more!
Spring Hill College is Jesuit. It’s in Mobile.
