How would you rank these ECs?

<p>The thing is that they have no specific thread running through them in addition to having no significant accomplishments. They’re all school or local activities with no awards or leadership. And most of these are only junior and senior year activities, which doesn’t bode well for your committment.</p>

<p>But your biggest problem? They’re not interesting. I gain absolutely nothing about your personality from them. What are you good at? What will you continue to pursue in college? Adcoms will tell you that they’re trying to build a class, meaning that each kid has to have something distinct to push them over the edge. You have to have to make yourself a niche.</p>

<p>By “rec basketball” do you mean that you play basketball in an organized recreational league? If so, that is something you should put on your application. If you are referring to playing pick-up games with friends, I would not include that; that would be a hobby or pastime, and you might talk about that in an interview if asked what you do for fun, or you might incorporate it into a personal essay somehow if that’s important to you.</p>

<p>I think you could use some focus or theme to your ECs. Pare away some of the mere memberships. More leadership or uniqueness.</p>
