How Would You Rate Your HS

I would rate my high school a(n) 10 academically very very very rigorous school and is one of the top high schools in the U.S
and a(n) 9 for the opportunities that it presents.
I would give a(n) 9 as a overall score even though getting straight A's is impossible, everyday we come out as if we learned sumthin new.

Gawd. I think I am the only person on here who goes to an average High-school

Hoo- I feel your pain. If there aren't 15 people for each class, it gets cancelled. You have the option of indepedant study- but it's a pain in the rear end. So most don't. Luckily, my AP langauge is popular (Spanish) but the German 4 and German 5 classes have to be combined to allow the German 5 (which is AP) to exist. My friend wanted to take a class, but only 8 people signed up so she was forced to pick something else. We have had major budget cuts, were using old textbooks (as in not a few years old, but actually outdated info is in them), and we were supposed to have all these new classes next year, but we can't now because of the budget

I would rate my high school a(n) 1 academically
and a(n) 1 for the opportunities that it presents.
I would give a(n) 1 as a overall score.

I'm a hard grader. That's all.

"Gawd. I think I am the only person on here who goes to an average High-school"

lol...you're definitely not the only one...definitely not...

I would rate my high school a(n) 10 academically
and a(n) 10 for the opportunities that it presents.
I would give a(n) 10 as a overall score.

Honestly, I love this place. They provide every oppurtunity imaginable you could want academically, every course you could ever want/not want to take, awesome oppurtunities for community service/job experience, and its such a dope place to be every day. Great facilities, dope people, whatever. It probably helps that we have ~5000 students, so its big, but its great. I'll miss this place (though in the same breath, I can't wait to leave to college).

academic- 8.5 psycho and math-centric...yay?
opportunities:6.5 meh
overall- 7

some sadistic teachers, horrible when it rains because it's outdoors, nothing planted seems to grow, everyone is constantly studying, but it's not bad.

I would rate my high school a(n) 8 academically
and a(n) 9 for the opportunities that it presents.
I would give a(n) 8 as a overall score.

I would rate my high school a 6 academically
and a 4 for the opportunities that it presents.
I would give a 5 as a overall score.

Not too many students from my high school go far beyond regional colleges; that is, even if they make it that far..

I'd give my high school a 7 academically, a 9 for opportunities and an 8 overall.

Academics: 9
Opportunities: 7
Overall: 8

Challenging, well-known across the country, oldest in the west coast, and nearly 5 nationally ranked sports/academics teams (as in ranked #1 in the country).

academics -- 7 -- there are a lot of APs (10+) but its really hard to schedule them because nearly all of them are offered only one or two times a day. and any AP with less than 15 signing up is canceled. they also avoid allowing anyone to take PSEOP with money outta their pocket whenever possible.

opportunities -- 9 --we have a videogame club, and paintball club, a skateboarding club...yea.

overall-- 7 --its a really good school, and its developing, but it isn't excellent. there are a lotta schools in the area that destroy us academically, but we are the best athletic school in our division....

these rankings need to be universal:

i rate my school academically as a ten because we send 1/3 of our kids to ivies and our average sat score is 1460 - 1480 although our average gpa may be very low because of the insane competition

would rate my high school a(n) 9.5 academically
and a(n) 9 for the opportunities that it presents.
I would give a(n) 9.25 as a overall score.

for a public non-magnet, my high school is rather good. a lot of our school's success is due to the students, because a good percentage of them have parents who are professors. we've had at least 4 1600s on the SATs from people my age out of a class of 635, and had 31 who were national merit semifinalists or commended students. we get someone into rsi yearly too. my school has excellent programs, especially in science. while we don't have nearly the selection in science as thomas jefferson in va, we do somehow manage to beat their quiz bowl team on most science questions.

9 academically, 1 for oppurtunities, 5overall.

"I would rate my high school a 7 academically
and 9 for the opportunities that it presents.
I would give an 8 as a overall score."
IB program boosts the academic rating... but the truth is we don't do that well compared to worldwide averages in the IB. The regular programs lacks smart kids a lot of the time because they are all in IB (there are some brilliant people, but still). As for opportunities... TONS of clubs... the most in the city. Not to mention the MUN team is going to Paris during spring break (and I am so excited!).

8 academically - we offer eleven APs and seven languages but some classes are just horrible
10 for the opportunities it presents (not that I have partaken thereof),
and 7 as an overall score because some things can't go by numbers.

I would rate my high school a 9 academically
and a 8 for the opportunities that it presents.
I would give a 8 as a overall score.

6 for academics
7 for opportunities
8 overall

My high school's course load is no joke, especially the honors classes, but it's manageable. Academically, it would have scored higher if not for two things. They offer limited electives and schedules for classes are too crammed. Because of the awful scheduling, students have to decide wisely on their electives because 1.) some electives occur at the same times, 2.) some are two year courses that students must have time for the next year, and 3.) choosing to have electives will give you no or few free periods in your cycle which will be tiring.

Opportunities: The teachers are willing to help me and, the guidance counselors are actually helpful. If you're interested in a certain program or need help in something, they are there to give you advice, granted that you have to approach them first. Not to sound corny or anything because my hs certainly has its imperfections, but the adults here are encouraging and supportive.

Overall, my school deserves an 8. The facilities are state-of-the-art and not rusted materials that have been there since the 1980's. The students are down to earth and are not competitive. The classes are challenging but not overwhelming. Most of the teachers really do know how to teach and their jokes are not always corny.

This thread would be so much more interesting if everyonne answers why they gave the score they did. just hearing the scores is kinda.. uhh? useless in a way.. i woudl like to hear about "different" types of opportunities other schools have and how many AP's they offer. it's also interested to hear, for example.. that you are limited to the amount of honor classes you can take.
