Yeah @hsgrad. Did you apply early or regular?

@ovodaja: EA…got in in Dec. If you scroll to around page 16 on this thread you will see EA results coming in.

@hsgrad is correct. Many students have already received most of their acceptances, and have now segued into conversations with family trying to determine the school that is the best fit, and Howard is potentially being left out of those discussions. At any rate, it isn’t exactly inspiring that it’s the end of March and they are still dragging on sending out acceptances (or rejections).

Wow. Ok @hsgrad. Well I sent in my transcript so hopefully I hear from them by Wednesday. That is true @EnglishLit, Howard is getting left out of discussion and if they don’t act soon they will be left out indefinitely. I would really like to make Howard work for me but at this rate I’m not sure if I will be able to.

is anyone else applying to howard’s 6 year bs/md program?

'applied to bs/ dds program

anyone know 'bout how many ppl apply to combined program each year

My DD applied and was accepted to Howard. She won’t be attending but we too shared the same fears as many others. They have an extremely long history of disorganization & lots of red tape. DD just so happened to speak with a Gates Millenium rep last week who graduated from Howard 10 years ago, her advice?

Document EVERY SINGLE conversation, get the parties name, title, the date of the interaction, be it face to face or via telephone & the time…keep a specific journal for said documentation. Even better is to correspond via email. So there is a hard copy record so there can be no dispute on the part of the school. She also said that you will have to fight for every thing you get. Literally. Every internship, scholarship will be a tedious, mind numbing process. She also added that students will have to keep their names & faces visible as these students get ahead the most.

@NewHavenCTmom I went to Howard for 3 days for Scholars weekends. There are ere kids there with top scores from all over the country giving HU shot. It was awesome to see… I was kind of surprised to be truthful. We got to talk to honors program current and past students who chose HU over Top LACs,
Ivys and places like Duke. They were real honest about the plusses and minuses but most, especially those who had never been at a predominantly black school were glad they went. I learned a lot about the history of the place.I don’t know if I will choose HU but am really glad I visited. It was different to step in a math class and not have to take notice of whether there were any other minority students and a friend told me there is a science lab that focuses on African American health issues. Talked to 2 seniors headed to Ivy’s for grad school and 1 staying at HU. There were plenty of all types of kids (good and ‘bad’).
It was all an experience and yep I heard about the red tape too!

@hsgrad, what is holding you back from committing?

@NewHavenCTmom I honestly had not even considered it until I visited (and did so because my family told me it was kind of snobby not to when I was willing to look at a bunch of non HBCUs). So I now have to think about it more and do other accepted students visits at other schools.
I tend to be super high on schools right after visits lol!

The ranking concerns me but I do think in the honors program especially I would be pushed. But HU is totally not the college experience I have envisioned for myself. I applied as a financial safety (great scholarships) but left the visit with a good feeling. A few kids committed before leaving, and I was one who left with it now fully under consideration. My parents would support me either way. They just want me to finish visits before deciding.
