I knowwwwwww

I have heard that the results are now out and I want to say congratulations to all of the finalists selected and ask that the waitlisted students and those not selected to keep your heads up. You were all among the top incoming STEM Scholars at Howard University aka “The Mecca”, which means you are among the top incoming STEM Scholars in America. I know that each of you have great options to attend some of the finest institutions in higher education and you will all do amazing things.

For those who where selected and choose to become a member of the 5th cohort of Karsh STEM Scholars, I want to be one of the 1st to welcome you to the KSSP family.

@ChangeTheGame my type A personality needs additional info. Move in weekend - is it merely a stop and drop or are there activities for the parents? We are nearly 6 weeks out and I need to plan.

Hey @BAMOM08. It wasn’t a straight “stop and drop” as Mr Smith and a few Howard officials met with the parents and students to share some information and to allow for any last minute questions before leaving the scholars for the summer. I believe the move-in and meeting with the Howard officials lasted 3-4 hours and we got to meet my scholar’s roommate and family. There were other Howard summer programs moving in on the same day as the Karsh STEM Scholars so make sure you get there a little early for your move in time (not a lot of parking very close to College Hall South which is where they housed K-2 during the summer).

Thanks @ChangeTheGame!!! We’re coming from Alabama so travel plans need to be made. DH enjoys long drives but I don’t. LOL

Hi there,

Is there a thread that covers 2022? It seems the activity here stopped at 2021.

The application deadline has been pushed back for a second time. I find this interesting and am wondering if it is because of a low number of applicants…has this happened in prior years?

Hey @Georgie_F. The thread normally doesn’t pick up until the semi-finalists are selected. Since my oldest was selected in the 2nd cohort, I have not seen the initial 1/30 deadline move until this year. I heard that the deadline was moved until 2/20. Are you saying that the application deadline has been moved again?

Hi, thanks for responding. Yes, it appears it has been moved to 2/23.

I wish I could tell why things have been moved back, but just make sure your young scholar is ready if they are named a Karsh Semifinalist. I am closer to the end of my journey chronicling the Karsh program (My K-2 graduates in May and my K-4 will be a Junior for Fall 2022), but if you have any questions, there are generally many more resources (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Karsh STEM Scholars webpage, and I am still around on CC) than what my scholar saw back in 2018.

Here is a new resource that hit YouTube in the last week of the Karsh STEM Scholars Director being interviewed.

I am surprised they have pushed the application deadline out. I came back here to ask when folks thought the notifications for Selection Weekend might be going out. It looks like I’ll just have to sit tight.

Hey @m87wb. I can tell you that the last 2 years have had the Selection notifications sent in late February, and I am hopeful that the notifications are probably coming in the next few days.

The Application roadmap is showing the updated application deadline of 2/23/22, but the remaining times on the roadmap have not been updated which includes the Placement testing (March 12-13th) and the Finalists weekend (March 18-19th). If those dates are correct, they would have to let you know very soon.

Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone received any communications on this year’s Karsh program? The website still shows the placement test scheduled for next weekend. And unfortunately, we haven’t hear anything yet. Trying to be patient…

We haven’t heard anything either. If this year’s timeline aligns with last year’s, notifications should go out tomorrow night.
