How's my PSAT Prep Plan?

Hey guys! So 12 days from now is the big day. Last year I took the PSAT without any preparation and scored: CR 50, Math 66, Writing 67. I'm a junior now, and for about the last month or so I've been fervently doing practice tests, and I've managed to raise my scores to around 64 for CR, 78-80 for math, and 70 for writing.

Math-wise, I feel very confident. The only mistakes that happen to me are usually simple mistakes in reading the problem wrong and answering something else different than what was asked for. So as long as I take my time I feel as though I could perhaps achieve the 80.

In writing, I normally miss one or two in the paragraph editing. I do tend to miss idioms as well. I'd like to strive for a 75 at least in writing. Perhaps I should read more of Silverturtle's guides?

And now onto my dreaded critical reading. According to last year's PSAT, I only got 1/5 Reasoning & Inference questions right. My Organization & Ideas and Understanding Literary Elements were in a similar boat. Present day, my reading comprehension of passages has ameliorated overall. I'd still like to break the 70 barrier.

Over the next 2 weeks I'm planning to learn all 400 words of Direct Hits as I am usually just missing the hard sentence completions and only seldom the medium. In addition, I am going to try to complete all of the critical reading sections in the blue book and really learn what I did right and wrong. Do you think that I should practice taking a whole PSAT since I've only been taking the tests one section at a time? What else can I be doing to reach my goals and possibly make it into the National Merit Scholarship for California (yikes at the 219 minimum)? Thanks everyone!

Bump perhaps? I’d really appreciate some feedback.

Writing is look for those little tricks. What gets me is the No Error. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
If you’re missing things in paragraph revision, then I’d suggest slowing down. I used to miss 3 or more on them. It was a matter of going through and reasoning. I almost tackle the paragraph revision the way I do CR. Definitely, for the last SAT, you needed to do a little reasoning on the revision.

I stink at reasoning and inference, but the thing you have to remember is: IS IT STATED IN THE TEXT. I know this is so so so vague, but really… look for it in the text. And remember to check the line number, too! The collegeboard may be asking for an answer in the lines 81-90, but one of the options might be in line 92-94. Watch out for those.
