A serious marching band or a student-run group just having fun?

bump......

yo guys....this is a legitimate question. like my high school doesn't have a football team, so i have never been in a marching band. But I'm pretty solid at the sax....would i have to learn all the dancing or anything? Because it's an sec school...and i'd get to travel and watch pretty competitive football games.

If not...are there a lot of jazz bands at vandy?

the band is a pretty serious program, as it is part of the SEC. however, it is not as hardcore or intense as you would find at other state schools such as UTK, and it is a fun program to be part of. I did not do marching band in high school and decided to give it a try this year as a freshman and I must say i've had a great experience. We play at all home games as well as 1 away game per year, and in the rare case we go to a bowl game (this year) we perform as well. as for learning dances, you just have to learn the marching drills (formations) and be able to march them. we do a new show pretty much every game, but it's not terribly complicated so you won't have any problems with that.

so all in all, the marching band is fun to be part of.

oh and i forgot to mention, the football marching band is during the fall. in the spring, you get to be part of the basketball band (the requirement is that you do marching band in the fall) and the basketball band is very fun, plus you get to go to the ncaa games.

and you get paid
