I’m a senior from NY who used to play baseball. Now that I hit my growth spurt, I’m a tad pissed that I quit a couple of years ago. I used to pitch and play outfield, and my arm was always very strong. Unfortunately, I quit due to loss of love for the game, but now that I’m picking it up again, I think I may have had a chance at a top LAC for baseball if I kept with it.
So… my stats are as follows:
I have an 89.5 weighted GPA on my weird scale. My guidance counselor says it’s not terrible. No rank. 34 ACT and 553 AP tests along with 730/700 subject tests. My academic index is approximately 219-222, depending on how my GPA is recalculated. So I assume I could probably get into an Ivy as a recruited athlete?
With that being said… is there any place for me? I haven’t been gunned in a few years, but I’d like to think I throw mid-high 70s, and I could probably touch low-mid 80s off a mound with proper warmup. I throw about 75 off flat ground with no warmup, and can long toss about 280-300 feet at this point. I did not play in HS due to me being cut freshman year and having other EC commitments during that time, so it’s not like I have exposure… or experience either. Is this just a dream? I’m curious tbh.
You are a senior. The recruiting time period has passed and those getting help getting into colleges have applied ED and most have received their answers (or are waiting for ED2 decisions).
If you get accepted to a school, you might have a chance as a walk on if the school has walk on tryouts.
Even if a coach still has spots open they are not going to support someone who has not played for years. You will not get support. But, walk on is a possibility. If you are interested in doing that, you should attend some skill development camps over the summer. Otherwise you could try out for club ball. And btw, athletic support at top LACs only provides so much. You need to have stats to get admitted.
Here would be my advice. Find a school to go to that has no bearing on baseball. Train like a madman between now and first day of school/baseball tryouts or whatever they might call it when the team starts. If you can throw 92+ on that day the coach will let you on the team. Pretty much anywhere.
