@Lbelle43 That’s great! I don’t have enough posts to pm, so I’ll just ask a general question. What did you research last year? (lol, I have one more to go)
@TheMainEstrange I was doing research in the department of horticulture! I got one of the two labs that I ranked as my first choices, and I had a fantastic experience there. Plants weren’t really my thing going into it, but my lab group was great and I learned a ton. A solid portion of us were doing something related to plants, but there were also a lot of people elsewhere (i.e. chem, engineering) if that’s not your thing.
I just got rejected
@vxia12371 Awww… That’s rough.
@TheMainEstrange it’s ok haha. I expected it
@vxia12371 Sorry about that Do you mind sharing what they said? Just want to prep myself for when my rejection letter comes lol. Also, when did you apply?
@vxia12371 Yeah, what @mosescuh said haha.
Also, @TheMainEstrange, Congratulations!!
I have not heard back from them yet… yikes. Hopefully, this does not mean that I was rejected!
@mosescuh @hyperpi314 I mailed my application in like half a month early. And it was a separate attachment that said:
“Dear ______,
I want to thank you for applying to the High School Honors Science-Engineering-Mathematics Program at Michigan State University (MSU HSHSP). I regret that I will not be able to include you in the program this summer; I have received more than 350 applications for approximately 24 positions in this year’s program, and the decisions have been very difficult.
My best to you in your search for a rewarding and challenging summer!”
A rule of thumb is that if the letter/email begins with a “thank you”, it’s either a rejection or waitlisted.
Still haven’t heard back yet either. But yea when did you apply? The last of my stuff I sent the day before it was due. I’m just trying to figure out if they are sending our rejections/acceptances as they go or have already made all the decisions. But lol same waiting on that rejection
@Carn-4 Glad to hear that someone is in the same boat as me! I hope that they are still considering my application. I encountered some errors when submitting, and as a result, some materials went in late. I’m getting a bit nervous… HSHSP is clearly one of the best programs out there (not just in terms of research, but also in student activities, entertainment, etc.) I am really hoping for the best!
Also, @vxia12371, thanks for sharing! Sorry about the sad news… what I learned is to move on and look for other opportunities, there are tons of great ones out there!
@hyperpi314 haha it’s fine. I didn’t really expect to get in, and I do have somewhere else to go (but I’m not 100% sure where yet)
If you don’t mind me asking, what were your stats? I think I’m definitely on the lower end because I have only taken the PSAT and didn’t think I would be using it for anything so I didn’t study
@Carn-4 Are you a sophomore?
No, I’m a junior. We took the PSAT/NMSQT in the fall and are taking the SAT through our school next Tuesday. I planned on taking the SAT earlier a few different times but I had conflicts like DECA state tournament, etc, and a couple where all the sites near me were full. I feel like that doesn’t look good for me…
@Carn-4 That sucks! Don’t worry much though. Your academic ability is measured by many things, and standardized testing is only one small part. If you have AP scores or subject tests and strong grades, those will make up for it
Yea… one can only hope lol
When is the confirmation date for those accepted? Last year it was 4/14, is there some date that was given this year?
@zoink8 I believe for the first round of people, it is 4/12.
Did anyone create a facebook group for accepted/confirmed students yet?
I received a confirmation email, but I have not gotten my decision yet. Is anyone else in the same boat?
