huge campus...

The 45 min ride came from a friend attending Rutgers. I was asking if the same applies to Penn State. Sorry for the confusion. I want a big school, but not sure how much of a hassle I'll face trying to get acclimated. Just anxious I guess. :-)

You couldn't pay me to go to Penn State.

why? Too big??

It's in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by farms. I just couldn't believe it when I was there a few weeks ago.

I haven't seen it yet (going out on the 18th), but from what I've heard/read everything you could possibly need/want is available. I've heard the same about James Madison in terms of the "mind numbing trip to the middle of nowhere". Haven't seen that yet either. Both schools are about the same distance from my home (6hrs) and getting back home will not be an easy task. Not like I can hop a train. That is definately going to impact my decision if I get accepted. Where are you applying...or are you already attending?

I'm a soph at Temple. I went there for the football game vs PSU.

Temple was on my original list. Is safety at all an issue? ( Not necessarily on campus, but the surrounding area?) What is the student body like? Good mix?

"You couldn't pay me to go to Penn State." "It's in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by farms. I just couldn't believe it when I was there a few weeks ago."

Well that, and you couldn't get accepted.

Considering I'm a transfer from BU, I think I could've... Contrary to popular belief, many people here do in fact get into Penn State and better. There are a few people here who transferred from Carnegie Mellon for our ActSci program, my friend got into PSU, Rochester, UNC and a few other schools, but wanted to go to Temple, a kid I went to HS with, who was top 5% of his class, 33 ACTs knew this is where he wanted to be, and didn't apply anywhere else, etc. If you'd like to keep believing we're all a bunch of retards who didn't get in anywhere better, that's your prerogative, but you'd be wrong.

No, the safety issue is a complete joke. As long as you're street smart and walk with friends (not that I don't walk alone at times), you won't have a problem. Not to mention the security is fantastic, and police are available at all times. I've yet to feel unsafe.
The student body is great, and very down to earth, very diverse economically and geographically. Coming from an extremely pretentious, wealthy and all around snobby school, Temple has been really refreshing.

From BU....When did BU become better than even temple? Maybe if you were going to law school there, but for undergrad....not so much. The guy that passed on Penn State UP, UNC, and Rochester and the guy that left Carnegie Mellon for Temple are both morons, but I am sure that you are not all retards. I just found it funny that someone that couldn't get into University Park and goes to Temple was running his mouth about declaring he would never go. Basically everyone at Penn state University Park loves it. The people that normally hate Penn State are the people that couldn't get in to University Park and have to go to Drexel, Temple, Duquesne, Kutztown, etc... State College is one of the best college towns in the country. Seriously, it's temple. It's probably about 1 out of every 50 people that would pass on the schools you are listing for Temple. Time to return to reality.

Well I agree that it's not better than Temple, but it's a top 60 school nonetheless. Also, our law school is pretty damn good.

Why are they morons? Because they either didn't like where they were or wanted to go to Temple instead? Education is what you make of it, not what stupid rankings say, and what peoples' perceptions are.

Again, who said I wouldnt've gotten into UP? I didn't apply. I had no interest, but how do you know? And even so, I hate Boston College and Notre Dame. Would I have gotten into either? No. So what?

You can say it's one of the best college towns in the country, but frankly, it's a dump. Enjoy your farms, corn, and terrible roads.

Again, I have every right to dislike Penn State. Whether I got in/could've gotten in/couldnt've gotten in is entirely irrelevant.

Oh, and for what it's worth, I know plenty of people at Penn State (including my cousin). Mostly everyone I know there is nice, so it has nothing to do with the students (except for your jerk football fans)

THANK YOU.

If education is all about rankings, explain to me how so many people (myself included) are ecstatic to be going to State Universities.

For real.....

You just aren't intelligent enough to know any better. That's the reason.

As for the temple student, we will keep our picturesque campus and quintessential college town. You can keep your unsafe, ugly, and ghetto school. Sounds pretty fair.

Sounds good to me (although the school is most certainly not unsafe, ugly or ghetto).

jec7483, speaking as an alumnus, that's enough. You do our school no service by bashing others. Take the high road.

For the Glory.

USMCJIM, also as an alumnus, push off. I have been responding to the garbage that this Temple student spills all over these threads about Penn State for a while. He has probably talked countless people out of going/applying to Penn State with his biased nonsense. For the glory is not just something you yell drunkenly at a football game, but rather something you want academically for the school as well. USMCJim, you have 10 posts and just got on here THIS MONTH. You should try reading some background before commenting and trying to play dad.

jec,

i really think you're the one making people look down on penn state right now-

coming from someone who is completely neutral towards the school.
